CnC Adult -or- Parents have Questions Too

I hope you've had a chance to take a look at the information on CnC Adult on the website under the nifty new tab, but I wanted to talk a bit more about the value of this program for parents and for other adults in your congregation.

Here's what happens once the adults get behind closed doors and are given permission to ask questions: they ask a lot of questions. And, speaking from the perspective of a priest, a lot of these were questions I thought they would already know the answers to. I thought they had absorbed all this information over the years, but I realize that I only thought that because that's the way I'm geared--hence the becoming a priest thing.

One of the most moving moments for me in teaching the class was the lesson we had on sacraments where we took the class to stand behind the altar. Many of the class were in shock that they would be allowed so close to it, having never approached it before. Again, what for me is a daily occurrence was for this group an amazing experience.

I'm very proud of the fact that this program covers a lot of fundamental material without dumbing things down. I personally am very pleased at one lesson I helped create that explores the history of the Nicene Creed in a way that is deep and yet fun. (Having someone wear a crown to play the role of Constantine helps.)

I think CnC Adult is a safe place for adults who are not the usual spiritual formation junkies to get exposed (or re-exposed) to important topics, while respecting their maturity and experience. I suspect that this safety is what leads to the surprising side effect we found from this program: participants become very bonded to one another and become more active in the church. This isn't the result we were planning on, but I believe there's something about the genuine and profound experience of CnC Adult that leads people to find themselves more at home in the church and more buoyed by faith.

I hope you'll take a look at CnC Adult and consider whether it's something that would work for you.
