I am a parent of 2 children: an 11 year old daughter, Abby, and a one year old son, Evan. I also have many other children--all the youth I’ve worked with over the years. I’m a 26-year veteran of church school and youth work at St. John’s Episcopal Church, and that’s a lot of children.
When people ask me if I ever get bored, I say no, I have new kids every year and youth ministry is never boring! I understand the ups and downs, the pitfalls and joys of working with our youth. The ministry of youth work is both exhausting and rewarding. We have so little time with them and so much to share about God, Jesus, life skills, loving thy neighbor and loving thyself. On occasion, that news might even reach them.
One of the things I think is great about Confirm not Confirm is that CnC will give you a chance to really reach your youth within the short time you have with them each week. I love offering CnC to our youth as it really does help them find and honor their spiritual journey . That and their new-found voice will help them daily as well as in a time of need. Just as it does me.
