When they discovered their Confirmation program wasn't working for the youth of St. John's in Oakland, the rector and youth minister set out to create something that would engage and empower youth, giving them the tools to affirm an authentic faith. They called it...Confirmitzvah.

Confirm not Conform grew from the original principles set out more than 20 years ago:

• Believe that the Christian faith will stand up to honest examination
• Focus more on formation than information, on the questions than on the answers
• Empower youth to teach and lead
• Connect youth with adults in the congregation in a meaningful way
• Respect youth's faithful choice about whether or not to be confirmed
• Celebrate and honor their faithful choice​
